Over the past couple of weeks, the Academic and Junior Councils have been collaborating to develop a tutoring programme in which we pair capable students with others who are wanting/needing tutoring. There are many students who need academic help who don’t necessarily want to go to Kip, and may respond better to help from their peers. This programme is designed to develop these relationships in a minimal pressure environment, and expose both students and tutors to opportunities they otherwise would not pursue themselves. We are collecting EOIs for all subjects offered at WHS (this includes arts and technologies).
Currently, our goal is to facilitate a few trial sessions in order to develop mentoring/tutoring relationships between students. These sessions are designed to be minimal pressure, to introduce the tutors to teaching and allow them to become familiar with the needs of the student. These will be school based, from 3.20-4.20pm, starting in week 8, term 2 and continuing until week 2, term 3. At this point, the continuation of tutoring will be up to the two students involved; and may ultimately develop into a more formal, direct (even paid) agreement.
After completing this form, your application will be assessed by subject areas and you will then be paired with students who have expressed interest in becoming tutors.
All selected student tutors have been approved by their subject area teachers to ensure quality of teaching. If this model does not work for you, there is no obligation to continue the tutoring after the 5-week trial period.
