What is Gifted Education?
What does it mean to be gifted?
If those are questions you'd like to get to the bottom of, then let's do it together!
Whether you are just beginning your journey as a classroom gifted service provider, or you could use a refresher, this day is for you!
Together we will learn the language of gifted education by discussing, exploring, and designing through understanding:
- Gifted education is a specialized approach to teaching and supporting students who demonstrate exceptional abilities, talents, or potential in one or more areas, such as academics, arts, leadership, or creativity.
- It involves tailoring the curriculum, teaching methods, and learning experiences to meet the unique learning needs of gifted students. This may include acceleration, enrichment, or more advanced content.
- Gifted education often includes the development of Written Education Plans (WEPs) to address specific academic and social-emotional needs.
- Gifted programs focus on promoting deeper understanding, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving, going beyond the standard curriculum to challenge students intellectually.
- Educators of gifted students acknowledge the social and emotional characteristics of gifted students and provide support to help them cope with issues like perfectionism, underachievement, and peer relationships.
- Gifted education is important because it equips students with critical thinking skills, adaptability, and a love for learning. These attributes prepare them to face future challenges and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world.
Ensuring that gifted education is available and accessible to all qualified students promotes equity in education. It helps break down barriers that may prevent gifted students from underserved communities from reaching their potential.
