Buds, Beavers, and Bluejays at Assabet or, Encountering the Lion
We have "Buds, Beavers, and Bluejays at Assabet or, Encountering the Lion" on Saturday April 1. This is a little like a Tranquil Turtle Time Trip Two. It is also a post-conference trip for the Brandeis Graduate Student Conference*, thus the name. We are going to Assabet Wildlife Refuge again but this time observing and exploring what is present in early spring. This includes evidence of beavers; flowers including lady slippers, trout lilies, and mayflowers; birds like bluejays and turkeys; and frogs and salamanders (what we see depends on what stage of spring it is on April 1). This trip is on Saturday, April 1 from 9AM to around 12PM. This is lightly strenuous (mostly walking on flat ground).
*The
2023 Brandeis Graduate Student Conference is called "If A Lion Could Talk: Knowing Animals, Knowing Ourselves," and centers on theorizing and describing nonhuman consciousnesses. It will be held on Friday March 31, 2023 with 3 panels. We highly encourage you to check out a panel or three! We may continue some of the discussion from the conference on the trip for those interested. Also, some panelists from the conference may be on the Assabet trip and can share their insights about nonhuman consciousnesses if they would like to.
