ITech Pathway Application
ITech: Is a three year pathway/sequence for students at Science and Technology. The couse sequence is as follows:
Course One: Computer Science Discoveries
Computer Science Discoveries is a survey course that takes a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as programming, physical computing, HTML/CSS, user interface design and data. Students create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving and fun. By the end of the course, students will have used the software development process and fundamental programming constructs to design apps, create web pages, develop games, use data to solve problems, and program interactions with the physical world through a variety of sensors and hardware. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to reflect on what they have learned about computer science and how it affects their world through journal prompts, classroom presentations, and written descriptions of digital and physical artifacts that they create.
Course Two: Game Design 1 and 2
Game Design provides students with a comprehensive introduction to creating, designing, programming, and marketing a computer game. Students learn about the history of game design, game theory, trends in the industry, and opportunities for employment. They also learn how a combination of programming, graphics, and storytelling can make a game compelling and marketable and how to apply that approach to other industries. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning tools, students develop critical- thinking and problem-solving skills.
Course Three : Game Design 3 and 4
In Game Design 3,4, students use what they learned in Game Design 1,2 to design, program, and create games for use in education.
They explore the psychology of learning and are introduced to the practice of “gamifying” a concept by understanding the target audience, defining the learning objectives, designing the experience, identifying resources, and programming and marketing the learning game.
Limited space available: Students selected for the pathway will be notified in May. Students not in the pathway can still select the course as an elective.
