The purpose of the BCPA Tuition Bursaries is to financially assist pipers and drummers to advance their
playing skills at a piping/drumming summer/winter school or through regular solo or band instruction,
with preference to players who are not in a position to otherwise afford such tuition.
Criteria for Eligibility
● Bursaries are open to BCPA members only
● Bursaries are only for tuition expenses
● Summer and winter school programs of instruction up to a maximum of one week are eligible
● Defined programs of regular solo or band instruction are eligible
● A family may be eligible for only one bursary per period
● Completion of the program of instruction must be done within six months of awarding bursary
● Amount of BCPA Bursary received by a successful applicant plus grants/subsidies/bursaries
from other organizations toward tuition expenses received by the applicant shall not exceed the
total tuition expenses for the program of instruction
Number and Amount of BCPA Tuition Bursaries
Subject to the quality of the applications received, two bursaries of $300 CDN each will be awarded in
the first half of 2022 and two bursaries of $300 CDN each will be awarded in the second half of 2022.
One of the spring bursaries will be the Darleen Milloy Memorial Bursary, in memory of Darleen Milloy
(nee Miharija), 1987 winner of the BCPA MacCrimmon Memorial Cairn and the first BCPA member to
win the Silver Medal in Scotland (1987).

Award Recipient Requirements
Recipients of BCPA Tuition Bursaries are required to submit to the BCPA Secretary at
secretary@bcpipers.org a brief letter of appreciation to the BCPA Secretary indicating the progress
achieved as a result of the program of instruction and a copy of the certificate from the particular school
acknowledging successful completion of the program of instruction. These documents shall be
submitted within 60 days of the completion of the program of instruction.
