Calling all incoming 3rd-8th grade students for a zoology project of immense proportions!
Carondelet offers a new club for students in grades 3-5 and 6-8 to design and build habitat exhibits for animals in the MN Zoo! The ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge, presented by Flint Hills Resources, offers students a chance to develop a solution to a ‘real’ problem faced by Zookeepers and staff at the Minnesota Zoo. From designing an enrichment, to building a model of a renovated animal exhibit, the problem will challenge students to use their science and math knowledge, creativity, problem solving, research skills, and love of animals during the engineering design process in order to best solve the problem and present a solution.
Students will work in teams of 2-4, from mid October through early February on the challenge of their choice with the support of an advisor. Selected students are invited to showcase their design challenge solution in the ZOOMS Design Exhibition in March at the Minnesota Zoo! Running from mid-October to early-February, this club is capped at 18 students in each grade band and will cost $250 per student.
