Who we are
The Library Media Labs (LML) are production and support facilities for a wide array of media production, performance, engineering, making and technology skills development. We provide space and training for many facets of making. From Game Development, to 3D printing, Motion Capture, Visual Effects, Animation, Music, Documentary, Graphic Design, Broadcast Recording the list is long and open ended. The aim is to assist in the successful completion of goals set by the user, generally in the realm of Media Production.  
Hampshire Students are usually creative in their explorations and combinations of technology, mediums and methods, and the Library Media Labs supports Div IIIs in all manner of intriguing combinations of styles, methods and goals. Yet it would be a disservice to expect Students to have all this understanding innately, so to that end…  The Library Media Labs provides essential training programs, workshops and resources in furtherance of student and college-wide goals, always with a particular emphasis on new and emerging digital technologies and media. Typical usages are, recording of audio visual material, animated short films, 3D printing, special effects for projects, music composition, teaching and broadcasting to name just a few.
Position Description
The Media Lab Assistant and Production Assistant positions are responsible for the monitoring of the physical spaces, the protection of users, equipment and facilities. These Assistants are additionally required to guide students to appropriate equipment and instruct in its use, as well as provide assistance during workshops and ‘Lab Days’.

Responsibilities Skill and Expectations
Responsibilities:
Arrive on time and manage facility usage
Assist with workshop production, execution and post-production
Assist students and faculty to complete class assignments using labs
Assist students with editing videos, recording audio, making podcasts
Greet visitors, assist with their questions
Design blog posts
Design and distribute flyers (occasional)

Skills Needed:
Willing to field a lot of questions, answer some and refer others appropriately
Excellent problem-solving and logical thinking skills
Comfortable learning new software/hardware
Willing to be trained on lab equipment
Friendly and comfortable talking to people
Responsible, mature, punctual, and self-motivated
Competency with Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, Logic, Ableton, Windows OS, Mac OS or GitHub a plus

We count on you!  You must show up when scheduled except in an emergency (call us before you are late).
Plan ahead!  We still need coverage if you’re out – students depend on our labs to complete their classwork, so, in case of expected absence, you’ll need to find another student worker to cover your shift.
Our users can be under high stress and dealing with complex technical problems, your ability to keep calm and respond reassuringly, with considerable thoughtfulness is ideal.
Must be able to take notes, respond to questions and report on usage and user scenarios.
Must be willing to complete a task-list before engaging in ‘me time’.
Must be observant, task and detail oriented.

Availability Requirement:
Minimum 4 hours maximum 8 hours per week. Starting September and ending in May.

Lab Assistant Shifts are weekdays 6pm to midnight or weekends for 4 or 6 hour blocks
Production Assistant Shifts can start and end two hours earlier but must also assist with events (mostly classes and workshops)

These positions can have additional opportunities to work weekends or occasional programs and events.
