2021 Big Tepee District Award Descriptions
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR ALL LEADER AWARDS

Nominee does not have to be from your unit.

Nominee should not nominate him/herself. This defeats the whole purpose and spirit of the
award.

Nominee must not have already received the award for that position.

Nominees must live by the Scouter Code of Conduct.

All nominees must be fully trained in the position in which they’re being nominated. This
includes Youth Protection and the appropriate split for their unit position (or the equivalent
training program for when they assumed that position). Scoutmasters, and Advisors must have
also completed Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS).
Assistants may be nominated, as long as they meet the same training
requirements.

There will be only one award presented in each category with the exception of Extra Miler and
District Award of Merit. The nominating committee (see next paragraph) determines the number
of Extra Miler awards presented. The number of District Award of Merit awards presented is
determined by the number of units registered in the district, according to National Council
guidelines.

Nominations must be received in writing no later than the nomination deadline date to be considered by the nominating committee. This committee is composed of
the District Advancement Committee, the Key 3 (District Executive, District Chairman, District
Commissioner), and past recipients of the District Award of Merit and/or Silver Beaver. It will
have an uneven number of members.

If there are no nominations received for a particular category, that category will be eliminated
from the award banquet. There will be no carry over or changes of category by the nominating
committee to fill an award category.
