BYU Management Society Central Ohio Chapter 2021 Scholarship Application
The BYU Management Society promotes standards of moral and ethical leadership.  Our Central Ohio Chapter scholarship program is one way we do this.  In 2021, the scholarship program will fund 9 awards totaling $12,000 to be used toward educational expenses.  Scholarships will be awarded to students who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who will be attending a post-secondary school starting in the fall of 2021 as follows:

$2500  – Top scoring undergraduate student
$2000  – Next top scoring student *
$1500  – Next top scoring student *
$1000  – Next six top scoring students *

* A maximum of two graduate student scholarships of no more than $2000 will be awarded in 2021.

Applications are due by midnight on March 1, 2021.  Applicants will receive a response via email around the end of March 2021.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Bio and Essays – 60%        
Community service – 20%    
Professional presentation and completeness  – 20%

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES
1. Applicants must be accepted and enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at a college, university, or technical college in the fall of 2021.  Applicants may defer scholarships if they are serving full-time missions.
2. Applicants or at least one of their parents must live in Central Ohio within the boundaries of the four Columbus stakes.  High school applicants must also currently attend school in Central Ohio (unless they are in a study abroad program).  
3. High school students must provide a copy of their acceptance letter from the college they will attend in the fall of 2021.  
4.    PhD candidates are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
5. Prior BYU Management Society scholarship winners are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
6. Students earning a second degree at the same level they have already earned (e.g., a second bachelor’s or master’s degree) are not eligible.

SUBMISSIONS
Both this application and the emailed written responses must be submitted for your application to be accepted.  

WRITTEN RESPONSES
Save your responses as a single file saved as your last name and first name (e.g., “Smith, Jane”), and email it to byu.ms.columbus@gmail.com.  If you are a high school student, include in your file a copy of your acceptance letter from the college you will attend in the fall of 2021.

Unless you indicate something is confidential, some or all of your bio and answers to your prompts may be shared at the scholarship banquet or posted online.  Although mentors and friends may provide encouragement and suggestions for your bio and essays, they may not dictate or draft any of your essay.  All of your answers must originate from and be written by you.  

1.  Bio:  Write a bio about yourself of up to eight lines.  

Respond to each of the following prompts in no more than one-half page each:

2.  Past Service:  Summarize your community service, including volunteer positions held, awards received, impact achieved, and activities led or supported.  It may be helpful to share the size and scope of the activity and your role in it.  

3.  Future Community Leadership:  How will you make your community a better place through your leadership?

4.  Ethical Challenge:  When were you encouraged to do something that you knew was wrong, and how did you respond?

Optional - You may share the details of any extenuating circumstances relative to your application in no more than one-half page.
