Noddin SSC Parent Nomination Form 2021/2022

The Noddin School Site Council (SSC) is composed of faculty members and parents. The SSC participates in the decision making process involving the direction of academic and social programs impacting Noddin elementary students. Representatives serve for a two-year term.

The following parents have been nominated to serve a two-year term on the Noddin Elementary School Site Council. State Ed. Code requires that parents serving on the council be elected by the school’s parents; therefore, we must be able to document that the candidate has your right to serve.

Shannon Gordon - I am a mom of 2 boys, 1st and 3rd grade, at Noddin Elementary School. I would be honored to be a part of the School Site Council to support the school in providing the best educational experience possible for our students. I was a room parent last year and this year I am leading Art Vista for my son's 1st grade class.

Karen Huston - I have two boys, one a current 5th grader, the other now in 8th at UMS. I have been actively involved as a volunteer at Noddin since 2013 in various capacities, including Book Fair Chair (7 years), SSC (3 years), and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator (3 years). Ensuring that the campus is prepared in the event of an emergency is very important to me, and it would be my privilege to continue as joint HS&C/SSC Emergency Preparedness lead.

Elisa Itkowitz - My name is Elisa Itkowitz and I have 2 girls at Noddin (3rd and 5th graders). This is our third year at Noddin and my 3rd year volunteering as room parent. I firmly believe that school has the capacity to nurture a student's capability and potential. All children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. It would be an honor to serve on the School Site Council and play a larger role in this amazing community.

Jigisha Mehta - My name is Jigisha Mehta and I am a parent of a 5th grader and 1st grader at Noddin Elementary. I would like to be considered for a parent volunteer role on Noddin’s Site Council. I am currently serving as the web admin for Noddin’s Home and School Association website. In the past I have volunteered as a room parent. I am also currently a project cornerstone volunteer in my 1st graders’ classroom. I have enjoyed being involved in the school and feel this would be a great next step in helping guide school academic and safety policies. I truly feel we have a great opportunity here to help bring more cultural and language education into our school curriculum. At Noddin we have such a vast and culturally rich student population that we can tap into to help our kids understand and appreciate the different cultures that our student population represent. My children come from a multi language household, and I myself have driven activities in my child’s classrooms to help bring awareness and understanding of Indian culture by engaging the kids in arts and crafts activities about Diwali as well as reading books to the kids. Though this has been a great teaching opportunity for the kids in my child’s classroom, not all the children are getting these valuable lessons since, currently this is something that is done on a parent volunteer basis but is not weaved into the school curriculum. Through books, videos and art we can really bring these vibrant and beautiful cultures alive to our children. I believe that teaching our children to appreciate and respect each other’s cultural differences and similarities will make them empathetic individuals. Being involved in the Noddin site council would help in driving some of these initiatives. I would love to be more involved in our children’s education.
