Open Music Lab Creative Podcasting Programme

Open Music Lab Creative Podcasting Programme is a place for aspiring podcast creators, hosts, producers and researchers to learn everything they need to make their own podcast. This workshop series has been created in partnership with Refuge Worldwide, Give Something Back To Berlin and Today at Apple.

Three weeks of workshops and talks on podcasts, and one full day of studio work will be delivered by industry experts, artists and creators, prioritising people from marginalised communities in Berlin.

In these sessions you'll meet industry experts from the world of podcasting and get hands-on experience, with mentors and experts sharing first-hand knowledge and offering ongoing support for the your creative ideas.

The workshops will run at Refugio, Lenaustraße 4, 12047 Berlin. Workshops take place on weekday afternoons, from 1pm - 7pm. In June, you'll have the chance to use the studio at Refuge Worldwide (Weserstraße 166, 12045) to record your podcast in a professional setting.

We’ll be accepting applications until the end of Tuesday the 25th of April 2023.

This course is for people with an interest in podcastings - we are looking for passionate people who want to learn about the ins and outs of podcasting, whether that’s doing research, producing or hosting a podcast. We would love to hear more about your interest in podcasting. What do you think about podcasting? Are you a big podcast listener yourself, or are you new to podcasts? *
Do you have any podcasters, sound artists, journalists, radio hosts, or shows that you find inspirational? Is there anyone influential to you creatively? *
What do you think is missing in storytelling, reporting and journalism today? Whose voices are missing from the conversation?
As part of this course, you will form part of a team with other participants and make a podcast together. Roles could include presenter, researcher, sound designer, among others. What do you feel could be your role in a podcast team? Do you have any particular experience that connects you to a certain role?
Do you have an idea of what kind of show you would like to produce in these workshops? For example, are you particularly interested in politics, documentaries, fiction, culture, music, or something else? Share your ideas here. *
Do you have any mixes or recordings you have created that you'd like us to check out? (please provide links e.g. Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Mixcloud, YouTube, IG, etc.). If not, feel free to share a mix or radio show that you love and tell us what you like about it? *
You should aim to attend every workshop, as each one will build on the one before. They will be on Monday and Tuesday from 1pm - 7pm. Please confirm that you can attend all the workshops or if there are any dates you can't attend please let us know here:  *
