STEM Research Experience 2022
CU Science Discovery is pleased to announce the 8th annual Summer STEM Research Experience. CU Boulder faculty and graduate students will act as mentors to students in this four-week summer program. Each mentor works with 2 students, based on research interest. (Note, there are two full scholarships we are currently promoting, if you have been told to apply for those spots, please note that in your application)
Students will be expected to perform research duties for approximately 30-35 hours a week, Monday-Friday on their research project. Schedules may vary among different labs. Readings and assignments may be assigned prior to the start of the program.
Participants will be offered a Research Methods class which will meet 1-2 times per week. This course will focus on research topics such as how to find and read scientific articles, how to determine the validity of data and good writing techniques.
Research activities in 2022 will run from June 27th to July 22nd, and culminate in a poster session with all of the participants.
Cost of this program is $1995 and covers the following:
• A stipend for the mentor to offset any costs associated with mentoring
• A materials fee to offset any lab materials you may use
• The cost of a research quality poster to present at the poster session
• A class on research methods that will meet 1-2 times a week and will prepare you to be a productive member of the research community.
Admission to the STEM Research Experience is selective and requires an application. Completed applications will be evaluated and decisions made by April 15th. If you are not selected in the first round, you may be placed on a waitlist. Waitlisted students will be informed as soon as possible if a spot becomes available. Admissions decisions are made by CU Science Discovery. Payment will be requested upon your admittance to the program.
Please note that Science Discovery will do it's best to match qualified applicants with appropriate mentors but that specific projects can not be guaranteed. The more open you are to different fields of study, the better your chances of getting placed.
