Michaelmas Members' Debate - Opening Speech Application
The Michaelmas Members' Debate will take place on Saturday 27 November. Two motions will be debated:

MOTION ONE (20:00): This House Would Rather Be an Artist than a Scientist
MOTION TWO (21:30): This House Believes Capitalism Cannot Solve the Climate Crisis

As is traditional, a number of speakers will open each debate motion. However, these Opening Speakers will be Members who have applied, rather than committee or external guest speakers. Opening Speakers will each be required to give a five minute speech, either for or against the motion.

Dress code for Opening Speakers: Black Tie

Even if your application is unsuccessful, you will almost certainly get the chance to speak on the night: all Members are encouraged to make floor speeches.
