AMASE 2021-22 Volunteer Handbook
AMASE is a 501(c)(3) faith-based Christian non-profit organization.  Its mission is to support individuals with special needs develop their God-given talents through music and art. We build a community in which our students with special needs can have professional careers in music and art.

AMASE envisions a world in which individuals with special needs are a blessing to the community, families grow together through music and art, and people can praise God together as one family in Christ. We warmly welcome individuals and families from all ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.

* Virtual Class Hours:  
- [4:30 PM - 5:50 PM]   : AMASE ART (Mondays/Thursdays)      
- [5:30 PM - 6:50 PM]   : AMASE MUSIC (Mondays/Thursdays)    
- [9:20 AM - 10:20 AM] : AMASE Singing (Saturdays)
- [4:40 PM - 6:40 PM]   : AMASE Cafe (Wednesdays)
- Please note that the schedule may be modified by your class teacher.

* Volunteer Responsibilities

​1. Consistency is crucial, especially when working with special needs students.  

2. Attendance Policy:
    1) A total of 3 EXCUSED ABSENCES is allowed. Make sure to FILL OUT the ATTENDANCE FORM.
    2) To have absences excused, you are required to notify your class teacher and fill out an attendance form  beforehand. Documentation such as a doctor's note or a school teacher's note will be required. If you know you will be absent for an extended period of time due to school events, you will need to notify and work with the Volunteer Coordinator to figure out a schedule that works with everyone involved.
    3) Fill out the attendance form at least 24 hours BEFORE your class start time.  
    4) Each volunteer's attendance and time will be recorded for all events and sessions. It will be used as proof  for volunteer service hours.
    5) In case of an emergency, you will need to report to the teachers and follow their instructions.
    6) Attendance to ALL EVENTS are MANDATORY for all volunteers.
    7) LEADERS are expected to have no absences. In case of emergencies, leaders are required to delegate their  responsibilities beforehand.

3. Behavior Policy:
Working with special needs students requires diligence and patience, so we ask for your thorough commitment and dedication. If at any time a volunteer acts inappropriately or does not live up to his or her responsibilities, the volunteer and his/her parents will be first provided with a warning. Any subsequent violation of the code of conduct will lead to the volunteer's withdrawal from the program.

4. Confidentiality
All information concerning anyone with a disability is strictly confidential, and thus may not be shared with anyone and/or discussed at any time, except for the following situations: parent-to-volunteer, parent-to-teacher, and teacher-to-volunteer.

5. Notify Any Changes
Volunteers are required to notify the staff of any changes in contact information asap. (i.e., emergency contact, home address, telephone number(s), email address)

6. Pay the yearly registration fee of $50 for the upkeep of AMASE (it is not a donation).
The purpose of our Youth Volunteer Program is to develop leadership skills and build new relationships, while providing services to the community. Youth volunteers will broaden their experiences working with individuals with special needs, sharpen their communication and social skills, and have the opportunity to help others while helping themselves. Here are some of the things that we have planned for our Youth Volunteer Program: (in person/virtual)
    • Volunteer gatherings + a Leadership group
    • Volunteer training  
    • Opportunities to perform at Concerts & Exhibitions
    • AMASE Calendar, T-shirt, and Supplies for Music and Art
    • PSVA Processing within eligibility requirements*
    • End-of-Year Celebration

7. Online Class Guideline
    - Subject to modification by the teacher, each class will meet online.
    - Prepare all art materials and/or music instruments before the start of class.
    - Be on time for the class.
    - Join the Zoom call with your full name: first and last name.
    - Video must be on at ALL TIMES, otherwise you will be considered absent.
    - Please show your FULL face, from forehead to chin.
    - Wear proper clothing.
    - Choose a good location that is quiet and not distracting.
    - Mute yourself if you experience unavoidable background noise.
    - Communicate with your buddies and give them lots of encouragement.
    - Don’t forget you are an assistant of the teacher(s) in your class!
    - Check your email regularly.

* Only volunteers who have registered and followed the volunteer responsibilities (see 1-7.) may participate
   in AMASE activities and be recognized as AMASE volunteers.
