MILEX Spring 2021 Conference Registration
"Digital Literacy and Identity: Implications for Equity and Social Justice in Library Instruction" will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 from 1:00pm to 4:30pm on Zoom.

The Maryland Information Literacy Exchange (MILEX) is a collaborative of Maryland academic librarians to promote information literacy in higher education.

Join us at this year’s MILEX Spring Conference to learn how librarians are integrating digital literacy, equity, and social justice concepts into their instruction practices.

Keynote Presenters: Julia Feerrar and Kelsey Hammer

Julia Feerrar is Head of Digital Literacy Initiatives at the University Libraries at Virginia Tech. Her current interests include online identity, digital wellness, and the intersection of information literacy, media literacy, and digital literacy conversations. Julia has been an active member of the Virginia Library Association since 2014 and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Virginia Libraries journal.  

Kelsey Hammer is the Digital Literacy and Multimedia Production Librarian at the University Libraries at Virginia Tech. She was previously a Digital Literacy Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Libraries. Kelsey’s research interests include design education, GIF culture, and digital wellness.


The conference will also include a panel of Maryland high school librarians led by Laura Hicks, Education Specialist, School Library Media, from the Maryland State Department of Education.

Laura Hicks was the Library Media Specialist at Frederick High School (FHS) in Frederick, MD. She began her career in school libraries as the information resource specialist for Frederick County Public Schools and went on to become the media specialist at West Frederick Middle School where she worked until her transfer to FHS.

Registration fee:
 $35, includes complementary 2021-2022 MILEX Membership for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.
