World Space Week -2023

World Space Week is an International celebration of science and technology and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.

The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year during October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events:

October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration.

October 10, 1967: The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

Goals of World Space Week
Provide unique leverage in space outreach and education
Educate people around the world about the benefits that they receive from space
Encourage greater use of space for sustainable economic development
Demonstrate public support for space programs
Foster international cooperation in space outreach and education

ISRS Tiruchirappalli Regional Chapter
Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS) Dehradun, was established in 1969 with the main objective of advancement and dissemination of remote sensing technology in the fields of mapping, planning and management of natural resources and environment. It has established a number of regional chapters.
 
Tiruchirappalli Regional Chapter (TRC), established in the year of 2011, is housed at the Department of Geography, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The TRC is actively serving the fields of remote sensing, geosciences and other interdisciplinary subjects to promote and disseminate knowledge to the younger generation.

WSW Quiz 2023
The ISRS-TRC, in association with TN Social Science Teachers (TN-SST), is organising the quiz competition to commemorate the World Space Week – 2020 on the theme ‘Satellites Improve Life’.

The main moto of this event is to kindle the young minds on space science knowledge and programmes.  

The Quiz competition is conducted in online mode through Google Form.
It contains 50 questions each carry 2 mark.
E-Certificate will be issued to those who qualify with a minimum of 50 mark.
