Flagler Humane Society - Dog Adoption Events
Volunteers are needed to assist the Flagler Humane Society at their Dog Adoption Events. Days and times vary. Please help get their wonderful dogs adopted! They have weekly Dog Adoption events out in the community where they bring out 3-4 adoptable dogs to be seen and hopefully adopted by people! Sometimes it is held under a tent outside of a pet store or at a local community event. Other times, it may be inside a business promoting their dogs and services.

Here is the list of volunteer roles and responsibilities:
Pet Transporter:  Drives the Outreach Van; loads  up pre-selected dogs and their paperwork into the van with the assistance of a Pet Transporter Assistant.  Transports them to the event, unloads equipment first and set up a booth with other volunteers, and brings out dogs once all is set up.  They stay to promote the dogs at the event.  At the end of the event, they load up the dogs first, then equipment.  Transports them back to the shelter, unloads dogs and puts them back in their assigned kennels.

Pet Transporter Assistant:  Rides with the Pet Transporter in the Outreach Van; helps load up pre-selected dogs and their paperwork into the van with the assistance of the Pet Transporter.  Helps transport them to the event, unloads equipment first and sets up booth with other volunteers, and brings out dogs once all is set up.  Stays to promote the dogs at the event.   At the end of the event, they load up the dogs first, then equipment.   Helps transport them back to shelter, unloads dogs and puts them back in their assigned kennels. 

Dog Walker Volunteer:  MUST BE A HUMANE SOCIETY DOG WALKER!   Meets Outreach Van at the event site, helps unload and setup booth.   Promotes the dogs at the event.  At the end of the event, they load up the dogs first, then equipment.  They can go home from the event.  

Non-Dog Walker Volunteer:  Meets Outreach Van at event site, helps unload and set up booth.  Promotes the shelter's services, sells FHS merchandise, assists adopters fill out adoption application, interviews them as an adopter, collects adoption fee, and takes cellphone photo of adopter and their new dog to send to shelter to use in promotion.  Although they may briefly hold a dog on a leash for a Dog Walker on occasion, their role is not to handle the dogs (as they have not been trained on how to do this.  At the end of the event, they help break down the booth and pack everything away in their assigned totes.  They can go home from the event.

Community Service Hours for School and/or College is available.  Must be 18 years of age or above.  Must be comfortable around all breeds of dogs.  Depending on the role they select, if they are holding onto a dog with a leash they need upper body as some dogs pull hard.  Pet Transporters need a valid driver's license.  

If you are not a registered volunteer with Flagler Volunteer Services by signing up to assist with this volunteer position you will be registered and will be subject to a sexual predator background check before being referred.  Following the background check a referral email will be sent to both a Flagler Humane Society representative and your email address to make a connection!
