Modernity is often thought of for its own sake, but is rarely observed on the scale of the long history of human creation. And what if the purpose of "modernity" were only to pay tribute to Baudelaire, in other words to the man who desperately wanted to combine the new and the old in the same historical movement, in the same world inhabited by forms from the beginning? Then the "modern moment", however powerful it may be, would quickly fade away in the cluttered universe of "events" or "turning points".
