NYC poets, emcees, and writers ages 13-19 are invited to compete in the 24th Annual Urban Word NYC Teen Poetry Slam, the largest and longest-running teen poetry competition in New York City! If you are a poet, writer, and/or emcee, come through! Registration and access to events is free for applicants.
Poets compete using original work in a Semi-Final Competition in either Brooklyn or the Bronx in order to advance to the Grand Slam Finals on Friday, April 7th at Harlem’s own Schomburg Center for Black Culture.
Note: You can only compete in ONE prelim-final competition. Poems MUST be the poets own work, cannot include instrumentation, props, or costumes, and should be no longer than 3 and a half minutes (3:30) long.

The top 5 winners earn a spot on the Urban Word NYC Slam Team and an all-expenses paid trip to represent New York City at the Brave New Voices National Teen Poetry Festival in San Francisco this July. They also win opportunities to perform in high profile events, including NY Liberty WNBA games, regional slam competitions and more.
