Please read through ALL of these important details - it will help with your questions.  Course Descriptions can be seen by scrolling further down.  After reading, fill out this form and make sure to click SUBMIT at the very bottom of the form.  Deadline is May 15 for submissions.
--  Only one form per student can be submitted. If you have two 7th graders in the family, fill out the form twice, once per student and submit two separate forms

--  Courses may be subject to change or cancel due to enrollment or staffing.

--  While every effort will be made to accommodate preferences, students are not guaranteed placement in 1st choice.

--  CURRICULUM SUPPORT:  If a student has previously be assigned Curriculum Support, it will automatically be added the student's schedule as their elective. Contact kfreed@my.rescueusd.org with questions.

--  If an Elective Course Request form is not submitted by May 15, students will automatically be given an elective based on availability. Thank you for understanding the deadline.

CONCERT BAND / Full-year
*Prerequisite – Beginning Band and/or teacher recommendation. This class is designed for continued band instruction for students with at least one full year of formal classroom or private instruction on an instrument, and teacher recommendation.  Open to 7th grade students with at least one full year of band experience. Students must be able to read music and have a working knowledge of rehearsal/performance procedures.  Final placement will be done by the music department.
SPANISH 7A / Full-year
This 7A course will be the first half of Spanish 1 offered as a year-long course in the 7th grade. Students in 7A will be expected to complete Spanish 1 in it's entirety by taking a second year for the B course as 8th graders. The 7A course will consist of present tense conjugations, everyday conversations, vocabulary and culture of some countries.  There will be oral tests and presentations.  There will be some projects done individually.  Students will be working out of a textbook and a grammar book.  Students must maintain a B average to advance to Spanish 8B.
YEARBOOK / Full-year
A year-long class that designs and builds the school yearbook. This class will work on literary descriptions, photography, and book design. This class is for grades 7 & 8.
WHEEL 1 - DIGITAL MEDIA / ART  / DIGITAL MEDIA 2 - Trimester rotating with emphasis on Digital Media
DIGITAL MEDIA, 1st & 3rd trimesters:  Students will explore the fundamentals of photography, video production, and graphic design. Using a mix of software and devices, students will create digital media, both individually and collaboratively. Students will develop more in depth skills in visual communication, design thinking, planning, organization, and media literacy.

ART, 2nd trimester:  Class for students to study and create various types of 2D and 3D art. Students will explore art design concepts & techniques. Mediums used will include paint, sketching, clay, yarn, and more.

WHEEL 2 - ART / DIGITAL MEDIA / ART 2 -  Trimester rotating with emphasis on Art
ART,  1st & 3rd trimesters:  Class for students to study and create various types of 2D and 3D art. Students will explore art design concepts & techniques in more depth. Mediums used will include paint, sketching, clay, yarn, and more.

DIGITAL MEDIA,  2nd trimester:  Students will explore the fundamentals of photography, video production, and graphic design. Using a mix of software and devices, students will create digital media, both individually and collaboratively. Students will develop skills in visual communication, design thinking, planning, organization, and media literacy.

WHEEL 3 - WORLD MUSIC /  DIGITAL MEDIA / ART - Trimester of each
WORLD MUSIC trimester:  Primary focus on Caribbean and African drumming.  We will also explore culture, teamwork, communication, listening, drum circles and eventually a performance. No previous experience necessary.

DIGITAL MEDIA trimester:  Students will explore the fundamentals of photography, video production, and graphic design. Using a mix of software and devices, students will create digital media, both individually and collaboratively. Students will develop skills in visual communication, design thinking, planning, organization, and media literacy.

ART trimester:  Class for students to study and create various types of 2D and 3D art. Students will explore art design concepts & techniques. Mediums used will include paint, sketching, clay, yarn, and more.

WHEEL 4 - HORTICULTURE  /  DIGITAL MEDIA / ART - Trimester of each
HORTICULTURE trimester:  Come explore the dirt beneath your feet and its tremendous impact on the environment.  In this class you will grow your own plants from seeds and eat the harvest, study worms [even get your own pet worm], help build a worm farm, participate in the arts using nature as your subject, learn how to compost, work in the garden outside, learn how plants grow, go on nature scavenger hunts around campus, and collect invertebrates [insects] to study. You will also learn about the profound impact that humans have on the earth and what you can do to keep it healthy.

Using a mix of software and devices, students will create digital media, both individually and collaboratively. Students will develop skills in visual communication, design thinking, planning, organization, and media literacy.
