Questions about the application:

Who will be reading my answers?

The Lawrence Times and Haus of McCoy staff will be reading them to determine if you are a great candidate for the program. Your personal information will not be made publicly available without your consent.

How long should my answers be?

Everyone will have different responses to the open-ended questions. We mainly ask that you fill out your questions to make sure that we get a full picture of what you are interested in writing about, and who you are as a person. If you have more than one idea about what you’re interested in, please make sure that you write that.

What if my legal name is different?

It is possible that we will need to know your legal name for tax purposes in order to make sure you’re paid. However, that will never be made publicly available without your consent, and we will always use the name and pronouns that you ask us to.

What if I’m worried about my parents/guardian/family not allowing me to participate? What if I’m concerned about my safety?

As a community collaboration, we are prioritizing your safety and keeping this in mind. Your personal information will never be made available without your consent. We still strongly encourage you to apply, and we can work out how to still publish your op-ed, whether it is anonymously or as a pen name etc.
