St John the Baptist Purley Synod survey
This survey is for parishioners of St John the Baptist church. All responses are anonymous.

There are three questions, but please read this background section carefully before responding. Then click next to continue.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The whole church throughout the world has been asked to go on a journey of listening. This is known as the Synod or Synodal process – Synod simply means journeying together.

The Synod is not to decide any particular matters of doctrine or teaching, but rather we are all being asked - ordinary people, as well as priests and bishops -  to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to each other, and reflect on the Church today, both locally and wider.

There are a few different ways of taking part in this Synod process. You can come to a parish meeting (look out for more dates in the newsletter), you can send an email directly to the Synod team in Southwark Diocese, or you can simply fill in your thoughts on this questionnaire.

You can complete the questions as an individual or a household. If you are doing this as a household, take time then to listen to each other without interruption or judgement. You can indicate in your answers that there are responses from different members of the household.

Before you answer, please take some time to reflect and pray.

The Church is asking us to consider three concepts:

1. Communion

At Mass, receiving Holy Communion means that we are a community together with Jesus Christ, but is this also reflected in our faith and our lives?

2. Participation

In the last 18 months of the pandemic, we have been restricted in being fully involved in our communities – has this changed the way we think about being involved in the Church? And do our parishes give us an opportunity to grow in our faith and to help and support each other in our journeys?

3. Mission

How can the Church reach out to show God’s love to all those around us? The Synod is a chance for us to consider if there are any particular issues in our own neighbourhoods where we, as the Church, can bring God’s love.
