Libraries Matter!
Tell the Leaders of the Political Parties vying for your vote on May 16th that Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries Matter!   Further investments are needed to fulfill the recommendations put forth in the EY Review, commissioned by the Government of Newfoundland, at cost of $250,000.

The NLPL have created a multi-year Future State Plan, as per the recommendation of the EY review, which addresses realistic ways to improve the library system starting with the most pressing issues of;  increasing library hours, staffing and the book budget.

Help us stress the importance and value of Public Libraries s for all people of this province by making this part of the party platforms.

Subject line: Libraries Matter!

Dear Party Leader,

In 2016, a hasty decision was made to cut half the public libraries in this province to save $1 million dollars.  The mass outrage from the people of this province halted that horrendous decision, and prompted a government commissioned organizational review of the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries (NLPL).  This review established that the NLPL is severely under-funded, under-staffed and under-resourced and a multi-year plan is required to address the 18 recommendations and improve the system.

The Future State Plan, released last fall, addressed all 18 of these recommendations in a three phase approach.  Phase One seeks a $1.7 million increase, which would bring funding back to 2012-2013 levels, that will be applied to the most pressing recommendations;  increased branch hours, increased staffing and an increase to the book and electronic resources budget.

During tough financial times, libraries should not be neglected, but instead embraced.  show the people of this province that you believe Libraries Matter by publicly supporting the Future State Plan and all it's recommendations.

Please get back to let me know what you have done in response to my message.

Sincerely,
