Consultation on dogs in FMC Club Huts.
At the AGM held on 24th Feb 2022, whilst discussing future club policy, the hut rule regarding taking dogs into the club hut grounds was questioned by a member. Specifically, whether an FMC member should be allowed to take a dog into the hut grounds, sleep with it in a vehicle (e.g. a camper van) or under close control on a lead whilst sat outside.
The hut rules are drafted and published by the committee in accordance with Rule 21.1 :
“21.1 All members must adhere to the Hut Rules and General Information. These rules shall be drawn up by the Committee and be made available to all members and be posted in the Club Huts. The Committee shall review and amend Hut Rules as necessary.”
The current ‘Hut Rule’ regarding dogs reads:
“5. No animals are allowed at the huts”
The original intent of this rule was that a dog should not be allowed anywhere ‘AT’ the hut (i.e. including the grounds), although it has been interpreted by some members that the rule just applied to dogs ‘IN’ the actual hut building.
There was lively debate at the AGM and no obvious consensus could be found that would satisfy all present, the committee took an action to consult the membership as a whole and then make a decision on how to proceed.
