The Beacon City School District (BCSD) is putting together a committee to review the name of the Columbus Day holiday. Please complete the form below if you would like to participate.

Who will be on the committee? The committee will include up to 9 participants from the community, along with 2 students. The superintendent will moderate the meetings. If the district receives more than 9 member submissions, committee members will be chosen by lottery.

When will the committee meet? The committee will meet 3 times – once in March 30, April 27 and June 1, all at 7:00. The BCSD Board of Education (BOE) will then discuss the committee's recommendation(s) in June.

What is the goal of the committee? This is an opportunity for the community to participate in thoughtful discussions about whether to change the name of the Columbus Day holiday. The committee will provide recommendation(s), which the Board will vote on.

Please Note: Any decision made by the district would only impact the holiday name in BCSD calendars, and would have no impact on state or federal designations.
