Dread of Making Art (DOMA) Workshop - Registration

Saturday, April 5 from 12-4pm @ Vox Populi Gallery, 319 N 11th St #3, Philadelphia, PA 19107

Am I making enough? Will I ever be done working? Is it any good? How will I fund it? Where will I put all this stuff after? Is what I have to say worth saying? Is anyone paying attention? Am I making the best use of my time? Does the world need this? What’s the point in times like these?

If you relate, you might consider joining for a workshop exploring these and other questions around the dread of making art (DOMA). We find DOMA can be hard to talk about. It can feel shameful to avoid something no one asked us to do in the first place; something we have the rare privilege of time and resources to do; something that was supposed to be expressive and liberating. Yet DOMA persists, and so this workshop is a chance for some solidarity and mutual curiosity around the experience. We will explore the topic emotionally, somatically, and conceptually through writing prompts, group discussion, and exploring parts-of-self.

DOMA is led by two ambivalent artists, Maia Chao and Netta Sadovsky, one who teaches art to college students, and the other who has a foot out the door of the arts and into the profession of therapy. We bring to this event our experience facilitating groups and leading emotionally and somatically charged discussions.

This event is free and open to the public, with registration required. If you have any questions or need to cancel your registration, please contact maiachaos@gmail.com.
