Note that the MDM Competition Season runs from August 2024 - May 2025 (approximately).  During the Competition season, dancers will have required technique classes. During the Summer, competition dancers are expected to continue training in ballet and jazz, at a minimum, either through summer enrollment or punch card purchases. 

Most all choreography for the competition season will be set in August 2024 and there will be REQUIRED Master Classes the last week in July 2024 and throughout the entire month of August 2024.

BALLET & JAZZ TRAINING:
All Company members MUST take both jazz and ballet classes throughout the year. This is not optional as both of these styles are critical to our training philosophy and training protocols. Even if you are not interested in competing in a jazz piece, you will still be required to take jazz as a technique class during the duration of the Competition season.

GROUP DANCE BUDGETING CONSIDERATIONS:
Select your preference regarding your MAXIMUM financial investment in Company (this amount will NOT include accessory costs such as jackets, shoes, merchandise, make up, master classes or travel costs). Please only select ONE option that best represents your preference. 

Please understand that when casting, we will NOT exceed your maximum budget preference without your express permission, but we will not necessarily cast you up to your desired maximum. There are many factors that go into making casting decisions and we will make those decisions based on what is best for each individual dancer as well as the totality of the group.

Keep in mind this total also excludes monthly tuition costs. 

NOTE: This preference does NOT include a solo, duo or trio! It is for groups only. If you are interested in a solo, duo or trio, that cost would be IN ADDITION TO this preference and there is a place to indicate that in a later question.

USE OF GUEST INSTRUCTOR CHOREOGRAPHY:
One of the ways MDM Company dancers train is through participating in classes and choreography of guest teachers/choreographers. It is a way to broaden a dancers skill set as it opens them up to styles they might not be used in their weekly technique classes at MDM.

The MDM faculty will determine if and when an outside choreographer will be used for a specific group. When used, outside choreography fees are generally higher and vary significantly from person to person. Please see the notes in the budgeting section for ranges and explanations. 

Not all dances will be choreographed by guests; the majority of our competition dances will be choreographed by in-house staff. Please note that in general, guest instructors are used as dancers mature and advance in age and skill.

SUMMER MASTER CLASSES:
During the last week of July and throughout the month of August, MDM will be bringing in different guest teachers/choreographers to teach Master classes and set choreography. A selection of these classes will be mandatory and the related costs will be included in your Company contract. Classes that are not mandatory will have a separate fee that is not included in your Company Contract. 

MASTER CLASSES DURING THE YEAR: 
It is possible that we will have additional opportunities throughout the year for our Company dancers to participate in Master Classes with guest teachers. If those classes are mandatory for our Company members, this cost will be an additional fee (not reflected in the costs detailed above.) We reserve the right to offer additional Master Classes when those opportunities presents themself.

REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE:
Regular attendance at rehearsals is required of all Company members. We will adhere to the stated attendance policy in order to ensure fairness to all group members, consistency in training, and adequate preparation for performances. 

We do NOT forbid dancers to participate in other extracurricular activities and understand that it is important to be well-rounded, but we do expect that dance takes priority when there are conflicts with other optional extracurricular activities. Keeping this in mind, please let us know if you have other activities that might create conflicts.

OUT OF TOWN CONVENTIONS:
In general, our Company will perform at 2-3 local competitions and one out of town convention.

NUTCRACKER INTEREST:

MANDATORY MASTER CLASSES IN JULY/AUGUST:
If you are selected for the Competition Company, there will be an assortment of mandatory Master Classes taking place the last week in July and throughout the month of August. The cost of most of these classes will be included as a lump sum in your Company Contract. Dancers who wish to be selected for dances set by guest choreographers will be required to be present for the Master Classes and choreography sessions in July/August. We will NOT utilize understudies to learn choreography set by guest choreographers. 

!!PLEASE MAKE SUMMER VACATION PLANS ACCORDINGLY!!

If you have summer plans that end up conflicting with these Master classes, you will still be responsible for the associated financial obligation, even if you are unable to attend.

CASTING & INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS:
Casting is at the full discretion of the MDM faculty and is based on experience, age, skill, performance quality and a variety of other considerations.

Casting is not a “pick and choose” situation. Being a part of the MDM Company requires TRUSTING that the staff has the goal of giving as many opportunities as possible to each dancer and choosing opportunities that will give each dancer the best chance to grow and succeed. Therefore, we will honor the financial and time parameters given to us, but will not allow dancers to “pick and choose” which dances they participate in once casting is released. 

Because on the amount of time and consideration that is given to the casting process, Miss Jana will not be meeting individually with any parents and/or dancers to "discuss" casting once the casting has been released. If there is anything specific that you feel we should know regarding the casting process, please use this form to communicate it in the space provided at the end of this application. 

We ask that both parents and dancers TRUST that the entire faculty takes this process seriously and is committed to offering as many opportunities as possible, within your stated commitment level. It is our desire and goal to provide the right opportunities at the right time to help each dancer reach their own potential.

Being a part of the MDM Companies is committing to being a part of a TEAM. The culture that we desire to cultivate within this team is one of positivity, encouragement, support and a shared commitment to learning alongside one another. 

Talking negatively about instructors, staff members, dancers or other parents WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. It is important that every Company member commit to being a part of a TEAM and to recognizing that each dancer is a valuable part of the team. We expect that parents and family members set a strong example for the dancers with regard to this spirit by NOT engaging in gossip, complaining, comparison or any general negative talk regarding the studio, its faculty and support staff or its dancers and family members.

TIMELINE AFTER AUDITIONS:

Acceptance:
Communication regarding acceptance on the MDM Competition Team will be made within 2 weeks of the audition (no later than June 6, 2024). A minimum deposit of $250, paid by June 20, 2024, will be required to secure your spot on the team.

Casting & Financial Contracts:
Casting information & related financial contracts will be released in mid-July. Please do not plan to receive this information before July 15th and note that it may be up to a week after July 15th. 

While it may seem that this is a long timeline, please understand that we take this process very seriously and  that it takes an enormous of amount of time. We are very careful and meticulous with this process and seek to provide the best opportunities for every dancer. Please focus on this fact as you wait for more information over the summer and refrain from emailing us or asking us about this information until after July 15th. Thank you!

Mandatory Parent Meeting:
There will be a mandatory parent meeting over the summer. This date will be communicated to you with your acceptance letter. Please make note of it and plan to attend.
