Tell the Oregon Legislature: Cap Rent Increases at 3% or less.
September 13, 2022 state officials set the maximum rent increase for 2023 at 14.6%, you can read the Oregonian coverage here. Tenants may receive notice of a double-digit percentage rent increase as early as October 3rd with an effective date of January 1st, 2023. This is very alarming. For families who are already severely rent burdened, a 14.6% rent increase is effectively an eviction notice. With the statewide tenant protections also ending at the beginning of October, this could spell disaster for thousands of Oregon Families.

We the undersigned call on the Oregon Legislature to cap the maximum allowed rent increase under Oregon law at 3% annually. Renters and hourly workers were hardest hit by the COVID 19 pandemic and the inflation crisis. Working families are being displaced by steep rent hikes and low wages. We need long-term relief before we lose our homes. Please take action by passing a bill to cap rent increases at 3% or less and extend this protection to all renters- regardless of inflation or date of occupancy.

If you are issued a 14.6% rent increase, how much would your rent increase?

To calculate, multiply your rent by 0.146
For instance $1500 x 0.146 = $219
