Thank you for expressing interest in our housing program for J-1 Summer Work and Travel Visa holders!
All of the international students represented are grateful for your participation and hospitality.
This program runs from April through September with the Students arriving on a staggered schedule. They will each be here for approximately 3 months however some may extend their stay. They will be responsible for signing their own leases and handling any housing outside of their initial 3 month lease.
Participation in the J-1 SWT housing program will require you to provide a minimum standard of furnished housing that includes essential furniture (1 bed per student, bunk beds are acceptable), utilities including Wi-Fi internet, a fully functional kitchen, and essential linens. Other amenities such as laundry facilities, cable television, etc. are appreciated but not required. Air conditioning is not required however it is advised. We also take into consideration the surrounding neighborhoods; we have had concerns for student safety due to high crime in the past.
Our typical housing situation is 4 students to a bedroom (based on zoning standards) with 4-6 students sharing a bathroom and 8-12 students sharing a kitchen.
When assigning the students to landlords, we take into consideration their cultural and dietary needs, as well as how many times they have participated in the J-1 program.
All housing is required to conform to local code and zoning laws for the health and safety of everyone in the program. If you are found to be deficient in one of these areas we, along with the student's U.S. sponsor agency, may choose to move the students to another location. If this occurs, we will take action to secure any rental deposits held by the landlord.
We listen to and take seriously landlord concerns or complaints, and will act to hold any offending students accountable for their behavior while in the U.S. All students have been interviewed and accepted into the program through the U.S. Department of State and it is therefor reasonable to expect a high level of compliance and decorum from them.
