ABOUT THE AWARD
Sponsored by Commercialization at UHN, the Inventor of the Year Award (IOTY) recognizes an individual or team whose invention has made a substantial and noteworthy commercialization contribution leading to a healthier world.
 
AWARD OBJECTIVES

1. Recognize outstanding research inventiveness
2. Promote an entrepreneurial culture at UHN
3. Highlight the importance of commercialization at UHN in contributing to a healthier world
4. Recognize high commercialization activity and commercialization potential in working partnerships with             Commercialization at UHN  
 
NOMINATION CRITERIA

1. Must currently work at UHN
2. Must have created and/or advanced a substantial innovation while working at UHN, but not necessarily only in the past year
3. The innovation must include development of UHN intellectual property (IP) that is either patented, patentable, protected by copyright or can be or has been commercialized by industry through formal IP agreements
4. The invention should demonstrate high commercial impact or commercialization potential  

ASSESSMENT - REQUIRED CRITERIA

1. Inventiveness
2. Commercialization potential of invention
3. Commercialization ability, efforts and achievements of the Nominee
4. Patient impact/societal benefit

Assessment Criterion 1: Inventiveness *
Please elaborate on this inventor's/team's uniqueness of contribution to science, and the degree of advancement in the science/technology over what is currently available in the field. 
Assessment Criterion 2: Commercialization potential of the invention *
Successful inventions benefit society by becoming medical products, devices, therapies. etc. Please explain the market suitability and commercial potential of the invention you are nominating. Please describe the market suitability and commercial potential for this invention.
Assessment Criterion 3: Commercialization ability efforts and achievements of the Nominee/Self-Nominee *
Please include as many of the following in your answer as apply to this invention:
 1. Ability to bridge the gap between research and development
 2. Diligence in assisting with IP protection and commercialization
 3. Number of patents filed/licensed
 4. Commercial milestones achieved any demonstrated financial commercial success (e.g. funds raised)
Assessment Criterion 4: Patient Impact/Societal Benefit *
Successfully commercialized inventions will demonstrate impact or strong possibility of impact on patient quality of life or patient care OR will otherwise demonstrate societal benefit and aid in our mission of creating a healthier world. Please explain the health care benefit or patient impact of this invention.
