STEM Outside! @ Glacier Creek Nature Preserve
Join Bennington Public Library for an afterschool program at Glacier Creek Nature Preserve!

Kids learn best by doing and this opportunity to observe butterflies and beetles, utilize microscopes, binoculars, and other scientific tools is a great way for them to get to know the ecology of this restored tall grass prairie, all while developing their S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) skills.

Session One, May 11th, 4:00 PM-6:00 PM
Understanding the Food Web - We will take a one mile hike through the prairie and observe the different native bugs and creatures. Kids will learn a little more about who is getting eaten and who is doing the eating! 

Session Two, May 18th, 4:00 PM-6:00 PM
Intro to Biodiversity - We will be going out into the prairie, where each particpant will study a one meter square of land and try to identify as many insects, arachnids, and plants as they can. 

This program is recommended for children aged 6 and older. Children under 7 years old will need to be supervised by an adult. Kids should wear long pants and closed toed shoes that can get dirty. Bring a water bottle to bring with you into the field! 

We will meet outside the Barn at Glacier Creek Preserve, 14810 State Street, Bennington, Nebraska 68007.
