Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center (TIOBEC) is a proud official Boston Athletic Association Charity Partner in the 2021 Boston Marathon. Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center has been provided a limited number of invitational entries for the 125th Boston Marathon® to be used exclusively for fundraising purposes.

A qualifying time is not required for participation, but applicants must be able to complete a marathon within six hours. A minimum fundraising requirement of US $7,500 is assigned to each individual Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center entry and is to be raised through individual fundraising efforts, per B.A.A. Charity rules. Runners who have already secured a race bib through qualification or invitation are invited to join Team TIOBEC and asked to commit to raising US $1,500 through personal fundraising. Funds raised by Team Thompson Island Outward Bound 2021 participants benefit Thompson Island Outward Bound’s mission to provide hands on science-based learning and leadership development programs to Boston Public School middle schoolers for free.

All pages of the application must be completed and returned to Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center via mail or e-mail. There is a non-refundable application fee of $25, processed upon submission of the application. The fee must be paid in order for you to be considered.  Completing the application and paying the fee does not guarantee a place on Team Thompson Island Outward Bound.

If accepted, each runner will be expected to pay a $200 team fee, which will then be credited to your fundraising goal. Payment of the team fee is required in order to secure your spot on the team. Upon your online registration for the Boston Marathon with the Boston Athletic Association, each participating runner will be required to pay a $395 fee (amount set by the B.A.A.).
