Women’s soccer has captured the attention of the sporting world and is quickly catching up to, if not surpassing, the popularity of men's soccer. In doing so, women's soccer has had to overcome adversity and discrimination to get to where it is today.
Gender stereotypes discourage girls from sports, but we at Oakland Soccer Club hope to even the playing field. Women and girls in Oakland receive less encouragement to participate in sports and sometimes are even actively discouraged from playing soccer as it is perceived to be a "boys' game". Oakland Soccer Club's Women's Team aims to do more than win championships. We aim to inspire young women and girls in Oakland to play soccer and to show them that "gender norms" should never stop them from achieving their dreams.
Play equity, opportunity and social justice are all core values of Oakland Soccer Club.
