What is this about?
We are so glad that you are interested in being part of this Poetry Project sponsored by a grant from California Humanities.  When you sign up, you are agreeing to join our workshops and play with words in order to share your voice and vision.  We will be writing about who you are, what is important to you, what you want others to know about you and our community.  We believe that is the heart of social justice.  By the end, you will have written and presented at least 3 poems for a video and/or on the radio.

We think of poetry as a rich collection of words that allow us to not only think and see, but to feel and realize.  We won't be judging, grading or critiquing poems. You don't have to use a particular form- or any form at all.  And if you'd like to add music, art, dance, other art forms to your words, you are free to do so.

If you are a Native Youth between the ages of 12 to 19 and are interested in learning more about the workshops, performances, and money available for participating, please feel free to contact James or Patricia at the LIFE center (LocalIndiansforeducation@gmail.com or 530.275.1513), April (Acarmelo@suhsd.net or 530.275.1513)  or Sharon (sharon@inquirythatmatters.com or call/text 530.515.6480).

We're excited to begin our journey together.

Native Youth Voices, Being Seen is a collaboration between the LIFE Center, California Humanities, the Shasta County Arts Council, KFOI, and the Shasta Union High School District Indian Education program.  This project is made possible with support from the California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
