Hello! Welcome to the application for the UBC Vancouver Trans Mentorship program.
This program aims to provide supportive social opportunities and enhance social wellbeing and community care for trans, Two-Spirit, gender-diverse (T2SGD), and questioning students at UBC Vancouver. We seek to fill a gap that presently exists for T2SGD students who either do not feel welcome in or are unable to access other spaces in the university.
In this application, you can apply to be a mentor or mentee. A mentor serves as a source of knowledge, support, and affirmation for the Mentee in learning about and taking action related to their
trans, Two-Spirit, non-binary, and gender diverse
identity. Mentors should plan to commit an average of 2 hours per week for at least 4 months and for a maximum of 12 months. The exact time commitment is flexible and can be discussed between the Mentor and Mentee to best fit the needs of both parties.
The Mentee learns about, makes plans, and takes action in relation to their trans, Two-Spirit, non-binary, and gender diverse identity based on the knowledge, support, and affirmation of their Mentor. Mentees should plan to commit an average of 2 hours a week for at least 4 months and for a maximum of 12 months. The exact time commitment is flexible and can be discussed between the Mentor and Mentee to best fit the needs of both parties.
The coordinating team will make mentorship matches based on the considerations put forward by both the Mentor and Mentee concerning gender, sexuality, knowledge of trans-related processes, race and ethnicity, other identities, program of study, hobbies and interests, etc. Care will be given to ensure that both the Mentor and the Mentee are comfortable with their match.
Outside of the mentorship matches, the program will involve other optional events and social opportunities, such as mentorship meet-ups, panel discussions, and casual social events throughout the year.
Please submit your application by February 13th, 2024! The coordinating team will be arranging matches and sending out more information after applications are due.
