Why do you want to be a Beyond Divide and Conquer facilitator? Or a facilitator of racial equity? *
The TOT is offered as four sessions. Each daily session runs from 10-12:30 CST and 2:00-4:30 CST. The sessions are scheduled for March 21-24, 2002. Please let us know if you can attend all four sessions of the TOT. *
If you are selected, we expect you, as a partner trainer, to offer the Beyond Divide and Conquer workshop at least 2 times in the 12 months following the training. Do you commit to this expectation? *
Because this is a Training for Trainers, our expectation (assuming an online workshop) is that you will participate on a computer or tablet (rather than a phone), that you will participate with your video on, and will engage as you would if we were meeting in person. Will you be able to meet these expectations? *
As noted above, we will be meeting online for the TOT. Do you have reliable internet for the times when we will be meeting? *
Are you applying with a co-facilitator or facilitators? *
If you are applying with someone else or in a group, please include the names of the others in your pair or group. What are their social identities (race, class, gender, etc.) compared to yours? *
Please name two or three communities, organizations, groups, or coalitions that you hope to bring the Beyond Divide and Conquer workshop to. *
The total cost of the training is $1200 per person. Since the Selma Center has received a grant to partially offset the cost of this specific training we are able to offer a multi-tiered fee structure that considers socio-economic diversity. Everyone is expected to pay at least a portion of the fee. Which of the following fits your situation? *
If you need financial support, please indicate how much you can contribute and why support is needed as scholarships are limited. *
Tell us about your experience facilitating and/or teaching workshops online. *
Never done it
I have been facilitating and teaching online for at least 1 year.
Tell us about your experience facilitating and/or teaching about white supremacy and racism. *
Never done it
I have been facilitating and/or teaching about white supremacy and racism for at least 1 year.
Why do you want to participate in the Training of Trainers? What do you hope to get out of it? *
People who sign up for the Beyond Divide and Conquer racial equity workshops that you will facilitate come with a wide range of racial justice experience. Please tell us, as a facilitator, how you plan to make the space welcoming and meaningful for all participants. *
How would you describe your facilitation style? What values inform your facilitation? *
What do you know about reaching people in their anti-racist journey that will help you be successful as a workshop facilitator? *
What are some of the challenges you think you will face as a Beyond Divide and Conquer facilitator? *
What are your goals for the racial equity workshops that you will co-facilitate? *
What role does emotion play in racial justice practice? How do or will you handle emotion when it shows up in the workshop? Yours? The participants? *
Racial justice teaching and practice require a high level of self-awareness and emotional maturity. We need to know what triggers us and we need to have strategies for responding to triggers and/or challenges (either our own or others) with compassion and grace. Tell us a little bit about your self-awareness and emotional maturity skills, capacities, and/or practices. *
We all carry the trauma of white supremacy and racism in our bodies. Racial justice work requires growing awareness of how we are impacted by white supremacy and racism in our bodies. What experience do you have with embodied practice (sometimes named as somatics)? Another way of asking about this is - when you or someone has a physical reaction to what is  happening in the workshop, what will you do to support yourself or the participant? An example of support is inviting people to pause and take a breath. If you have no experience with this, that's ok. Just let us know where you are. *
How do you see the workshops you will be facilitating fitting into longer term racial justice work and activism? What lasting impact do you want the workshops you are facilitating to have? *
When meeting in person and traveling are safe again, do you see yourself offering the workshop in person? *
Please submit a recommendation from someone who has experienced your facilitation (500 words max) in the last few years. Please make sure your name and the name of the person making the recommendation appear on the document you send. We will give more weight to workshops focusing on racial justice and/or equity. Please have recommendations sent to: trainings@selmacntr.org. *
Above we asked you to share the social identities that inform you. How do these identities inform your facilitation practice? *
If you did not speak to social class in your previous answer, how do you imagine your class background to be an asset and/or a challenge in your facilitation role? *
Please share anything else about yourself that would make you a good fit for facilitating the Selma Center Beyond Divide and Conquer: Unite and Build program. *
You will find the criteria for applying to this program at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q2h-ZaDRycH-EajEIID3aUHEE04D3I7AWF8Ru7YdZlo/edit. After reading the list of criteria, which of them have you met? Please do read the full criteria as the checkboxes below do not include the full description of each item on this list. *
