Penguicon ConCom Position Types:
A Convention Committee is comprised of many types of worker Penguins. With every new ConChair comes the duty of appointing the ConCom for their year.
ConChair - aka “chair” - appointed by the Board. Oversees all aspects of creating their assigned year of Penguicon. The 2023 Chair is Dave “Ska” Green.
ConCom - is defined as Department Heads assigned by the Chair. These individuals oversee a large, working department of Penguicon, have a higher level of responsibility and accountability, and a larger amount of time investment required. ConCom is required to attend all meetings or have their second attend in their place. Regular checking of emails and documents, as well as participating in the ConCom Discord chat channel are required as well. ConCom members report directly to the Conchair.
Staff - is defined as a position of responsibility and accountability within the organization, appointed by their Department Head. Often called “Staff” or “Deputy”, they work under and report to the ConCom Dept. Head. Some staff, such as Track heads work during the planning year, and some Staff, such as Consuite Staff, Ops Staff, and Logistics Staff work during the con weekend itself,
Track Head(s)s - is defined as a Staff Level position, appointed by the Head of Programming. They are responsible for the inner workings of their assigned Program Track and report directly to the Head of Programming during planning, and to Program Ops if issues arrive at the con itself. A Track head must be able to access email in a timely fashion, elevate questions to their Programming Head if need be, and have good interpersonal skills while working with presenters.
Volunteer(s) - is defined as a limited responsibility position, often done in short bursts of time, at the convention itself. Examples are: Consuite Volunteers, Pack-In/Out Volunteers, Greeters Desk, and other such positions. Volunteers earn hours to redeem for various items/benefits at the con itself.
