To understand forgiveness, we need to understand sin.  One very basic way to define sin is anything that gets in the way of our call to love God, others, and ourselves.  Describe how the common sin of lying to keep yourself out of trouble might hurt all 3 of these relationships: God, others, and self. *
Read Luke 15: 4-10.  These are 2 parables that Jesus told about sin & forgiveness.  Answer the following questions about these stories:
What do each of these things represent in the Lost Sheep story: The lost sheep, the shepherd, the sheep being found: *
What do each of these things represent in the Lost Coin story: The lost coin, the woman, the coin being found: *
Why do you think both stories end with a celebration? *
Write your own "modern day" lost object/forgiveness parable, following the structure used in the 2 short stories you just read - what object would be lost, and who or what would represent God? *
