Innovate, Design, Sustain (IDS) Executive Applications: 2022-2023
Welcome to Innovate, Design, Sustain (IDS)! We are UBC Okanagan’s first sustainability-focused design club. Our vision to pioneer a more sustainable campus environment is achieved through project-based initiatives that supplement classroom knowledge with practical learning. We started this club to provide a platform for students of all faculties (and year-level) who want to make a positive change in our environment. We believe that together, we can put our strengths to use and come up with sustainable solutions to better our environment.

We have a few main projects:

𝗊𝗌𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗌𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 (𝗊𝗕𝗣)
• Install solar-powered benches around the campus
• Charge smartphones and other devices
• Add creative additional features to the benches, including but not limited to: a screen for displaying sustainability-related info, cupholders, fan, heater, decorative lights

𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗜𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 (𝗖𝗪𝗜)
• Did you know the majority of the campus community do not pay attention to how they sort waste?!  (recyclables, compostables, etc.)
• With this project, implement creative solutions to improve waste management on campus
• See concrete examples of our impact throughout the campus
• Raise awareness around waste management and create a campus-wide culture

[𝗡𝗘𝗪]: 𝗊𝗌𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗌𝗻
• IDS will be joining the Solar Decathlon Design Challenge for the first time this year!
• If you are interested in green building design, then this competition is for you
• We don't have the specific roles for this position set yet and we will consider you for one of the lead roles based on your skills
• We welcome students from all faculties to apply, especially Management students, English students, and Arts students interested in interior design!
• We need electrical, civil, structural, and mechanical engineering students for leadership and general member roles
• Graduate students are encouraged to apply!
***We strongly encourage you to check out DoE's website on the Solar Decathlon prior to applying to this position!***

NOTE: If you are interested in joining the Solar Decathlon as a student member instead of an exec member, we will soon share a sign up list for all student members.
