Come run, walk, or even skip your way through 5km and inform yourself about reproductive health and justice issues along the way!


What is reproductive justice?
Reproductive justice is a movement and a set of beliefs that refers to the position that people should have the rights to have kids, not have kids, and have the resources to raise their kids free from oppression and shame. Right now, this isn’t the case. Incarcerated women are often shackled when giving birth. 89% of counties in the U.S. do not have abortion providers, so women’s access to abortion is unequal. State and federal support continues to be cut, which impacts the ability of poor women to parent. Reproductive justice centers marginalized groups and emphasizes the effects of lack of access to resources, which impacts many women’s reproductive decisions. Combating racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, classism—these are all reproductive justice issues.

Consider these facts:

• The average woman must travel 30 miles to obtain an abortion.

• 5.1 million U.S. children have had incarcerated parents.

• In 2014, 75% of abortion patients were low income—
49% living at less than the federal poverty level, and 26% living
at 100–199% of the poverty level.

• Black women in the US are 4 times more likely to die in childbirth than white women.

We invite you to join us in developing a better understanding of the issues that impact women’s reproductive health.

The event is FREE and open to all—Middlebury students, faculty, staff, and community members. There will be snacks offered at the finish.
