UIUC Climate March FA24 Speaker Interest Form

This September 27th, we will turn out hundreds of students to build a movement of young people to fight the climate crisis. We are calling on the Board of Trustees to meet with Students for Environmental Concerns and Fossil Free Illinois to have a good faith conversation on the future of Fossil Fuel Divestment at Illinois. 

We want you to speak, so sign up to confirm your interest as a speaker of the UIUC Fall 2024 Climate March! We are excited to work with you and several organizations to make climate issues intersectional!


Speakers will be spread out throughout the march so we ask that speeches are between 3-5 minutes to stay on track. More info here in the one pager.

Speech Topic Info + Ideas
Keep your speech uplifting, motivational, hopeful, and moving! These types of speeches with strong language that are talking to the PEOPLE are the best at engaging with folks. We want to BUILD campus and community POWER to mobilize people into our organizing spaces. This is the time to be BOLD.

Here are a few vague ideas of different speech topics to help you brainstorm:
  • Intersectionality of climate change with other movements, e.g. Free Palestine, Labor, Social Justice
  • Environmental Justice and how climate change affects BIPOC and low-income folks the most
  • Youth voice in climate change
  • Highlight your campaign and tie it into climate justice 
  • Direct action can facilitate REAL change
  • Organizing WORKS --> When we work TOGETHER we WIN!
*Avoid speaking only about divestment from fossil fuels as we have several speakers on that topic. We want to hear about other movement work!
