Thank you for your interest in our mentorship program, run by the Canadian Association of Latin Medical Students (CALMS)! We are happy to connect anyone who identifies with the Latin American community with current medical students to share our knowledge about the medical field, applications processes, essay help, and interview preparation. To ensure equitable access, this program is offered free of charge, and is run on a volunteer basis.
CALMS was formed to bring together and foster a community of medical students of Latin American heritage, as well as all students, regardless of ethnic background,
who are interested in Latin culture and health. CALMS aims to address
issues related to the under-representation of Latin medical students in Canada
and support their transition from learners to medical professionals through
interprofessional networking. Our group also aims to increase the knowledge and
understanding among medical students of all backgrounds of social determinants
of health related to the Latin American population across Canada. By
accomplishing these goals, CALMS ultimately strives to improve the healthcare
the Canada’s significant Hispanic and Latin American communities receive.
Please note that all of our mentors are current medical students who are providing these services on a volunteer basis! Thus, although we will do our best to pair all students who sign up with the most suitable medical student mentor, we cannot guarantee that everyone will be placed with a mentor. In addition, the length and depth of mentorship is dependent on the availability of both the mentee and the mentor. Lastly, please remember that although we are here to provide the best help we can, we do not know any more than what has been publicly released to all other applicants regarding the interview process/selection criteria.
