 EFWMA PK – 5 th Grades 2023-2024  Technology accessories (mouse, headphones, mouse pads etc), IPads, Kindle fire, LEGO robotics sets, Drones, Micro:bits, Laptops, Desktops,Chromebook Acceptable (Use Policy 8-30-2016

Parents: EFWMA has Technology accessories (mouse, headphones, mouse pads etc), IPads, Kindle fire, LEGO robotics sets, Drones, Micro:bits, Laptops, Desktops,Chromebook loan Technology Initiative for PK thru 5 th grade during class time.  Each student has been issued a “Technology accessories (mouse, headphones, mouse pads etc), IPads, Kindle fire, LEGO robotics sets, Drones, Micro:bits, Laptops, Desktops,Chromebook''.  A Chromebook is a personal computer running Google Chrome OS as its operating system.  Chromebooks are designed to be used while connected to the Internet and support applications like Google Docs, Clever, Google Classroom that reside on the Web, rather than traditional PC applications like Microsoft Office and Photoshop that reside on the machine itself.  This allows the Chromebook to be sold at a much lower price point than the traditional laptops.  The Chromebooks will remain at charge carts school, they will not be allowed to go home. The Chromebook is intended for use at school each and every day.  

Students are fully responsible for their “Technology accessories (mouse, headphones, mouse pads etc), IPads, Kindle fire, LEGO robotics sets, Drones, Micro:bits, Laptops, Desktops,Chromebook'' and will be used in all subject areas.  While in class, students are expected to comply with school rules, policies, and teacher directives when using their Chromebooks.  Students are to pick up his/her issued Chromebook from his/her designated Chromebook area every morning.  They are also required to return his/her Chromebooks before the end of the day and make sure it is PLUGGED IN FOR CHARGING.  The Chromebooks will NOT be taken to the cafeteria during lunch, outside of the classroom or to class PE time, they should be stored in a classroom.   

The Chromebooks are designed to be assigned to one person, the login is a Google Apps account that has been generated by EFWMA.  This Google Apps Account will go forward with the student as they continue active in our school and will not need to be generated each year.   This account is monitored by “Google Admin, Navigate360 filtering” for safety and compliance.  

The email associated with the account will not be shared with outside sources and only used in the Education environment.   And, “Google Admin, Navigate360 filtering” will monitor all incoming and outgoing emails for safety and compliance.  Any items not found in compliance will be reported to the Elementary Principal and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. 

Now serving ALL of our students and teachers, Google Admin, Navigate360 filtering processes billions of communications and content every year.  Google Admin, Navigate360 filtering uses a proprietary Anti-Pornography-Scanner (APS) and filtering technologies to help provide a safety net against misuse of its tools.  Google Admin, Navigate360 filtering supports schools in their mission to provide the latest learning technologies to students in order to increase engagement and participation, and to prepare them for the workforce of tomorrow.  

A User Violation is a situation where a student uses minor profanity or insulting language, or sends or shares images that are racy or skimpy, but not extremely graphic.  Google Admin, Navigate360 filtering keeps 

a record of all violations throughout the school year using a three strikes policy for determining the level of response.  All students start with a clean slate at the beginning of the school year. 

Students will be accessing the students network which has the highest level of filtering for students.  It should be understood that it is impossible for EFWMA to restrict access to all controversial materials and the District will not be responsible for materials accessed with a District Chromebook.  

Teachers will be monitoring “Technology accessories (mouse, headphones, mouse pads etc), IPads, Kindle fire, LEGO robotics sets, Drones, Micro:bits, Laptops, Desktops,Chromebook'' use during class and students are instructed to inform the teacher if they access an inappropriate site which will be reported to the Technology Director - Mrs. Aida Aguilar or to the Computer Science teacher - Mr. Aguilar immediately to be blocked.  The Chromebooks are exciting educational tools and they will be used for instruction, collaboration and research.   Assurances from EFWMA School regarding the use of Chromebooks and Technology tools in school.  Technology is a tool to be used to achieve goals and objectives of classroom lessons.  The focus of the class will not be the technology tools but the fundamental objectives.  Students will be able to achieve the objectives through a variety of means without consequences.  A filtered internet connection through EFWMA Students network, a high speed wireless network.  

The EFWMA staff will monitor student use of technology.  Students will be provided the tools or will be grouped around the necessary technology for all lessons reliant on these tools.  Mr. Aguilar - Technology Applications, Computer Science teacher and Robotics coach will conduct Digital Citizenship lessons and provide reminders throughout the school year to help students remain cognizant of the expectations the school holds for appropriate use of technology tools while using those tools in school. 


Respect Yourself – Show respect through your actions.  Select online names that are appropriate.  Use caution with the information, images and other media that is posted online.  Carefully consider the personal information you share about yourself. 


Protect Yourself – Ensure that the information, images and materials posted online will not put you at risk.  Do not publish personal details, contact details, or personal activity schedules.  Immediately report any inappropriate behavior directed at you while online.  Protect your passwords, accounts and resources.  Never share this information with others. 



Respect Others – Show respect to others.  Do not use electronic media to antagonize, bully, harass, or stalk people. o Protect Others – Protect others by reporting abuse and not forwarding inappropriate materials or communications.  Avoid unacceptable materials and conversations. o Respect Intellectual Property – Request permission to use copyrighted or otherwise protected materials.  Properly cite the use of websites, books, media, etc. 



Protect Intellectual Property – Do not use pirated software or distributed music or media in a manner that violates license agreements.
