Connect & Create: Exploring Identity and Community through Art
with Afiwa Afandalo '24 & Artists for Change
In a world where "I" is considered superior to the collective, this workshop aims to engage students in thinking of how their identity shapes their community and vice versa. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss their role as community members and analyze how the collective and the self are equally important. We will read a short written piece that connects to the theme, then have a discussion on how the selected artists portray such messages in their work. And finally, create an art piece (writing or visual) that represents the influence of community on identity and vice versa.

Connect & Create workshops offer a brief exploration and creative conversation around a work of art from the LUAG collection, followed by a hands-on activity and/or creative response led by a local teaching artist.
