OPTION DESCRIPTIONS
Art
In this class students will explore a variety of different media to complete art projects. This course is intended to help students improve their drawing (forms, composition, shading, perspective) and painting techniques (colour theory, styles, and mediums), as well as use non-traditional materials to create individual works of art.

Band
Students will have the opportunity to learn how to play a concert band instrument of their choice and will prepare for various performances throughout the year. Please note that this is a full year option.

Construction
Students develop skills in the use of tools and materials used in construction processes. Safely transform common wood materials into useful products.

Cosmetology
Students will learn about hair styling (braiding, curling) and esthetics-including nail care & skin care and have the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe environment. Part of this course will include the possibility of connecting with cosmetology facilities at a high school or community level and learning about career related opportunities in this field. Join cosmetology for a hands on experience!

Design Studies
Students will utilize their fine motor skills in creating a simple product with cross stitch patterns, knitting and other design materials.

Design Technology
The students will utilize their creativity to solve a variety of challenges and tasks. Activities will provide hands-on learning opportunities often not found within the regular classroom along with opportunities to use new technology in our school. This course will meet the STEAM objectives (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) in the form of critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration. If you enjoy creating, building, technology, design and a challenge, this course is for you.

Drama
In drama 7 students will explore various forms of self confidence/team building, improv and drama games. We will be exploring performance etiquette/technique (facing audience, projection, body language). We also take a look behind the scenes with technical theatre, where we develop skills with makeup, props, or set design. Anyone from theatre regulars to students who are brand new to drama are welcome!

Environmental Stewardship
Students will explore various ways that we are called to care for God's creation - Earth. Learning opportunities include working within our aquaponics greenhouse as well as recycling and composting.

Foods
This is an introduction to foods. Students will be introduced to basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and nutrition through hands-on activities.    

French
Introduction to the French Language. This is a beginner level french option introducing students to the new language.

Indigenous Studies:
Together, we will experience and gain appreciation for various Canadian Indigenous cultures, traditions, and languages, through interaction with a wide variety of Indigenous people, including elders and youth. Current and historical events, as well as in-person and virtual interactions and activities, will shape the course experience.

Leadership
Students will plan and implement school wide activities and a theme week during each term. Students will also choose different skills and interests they are passionate about and find a way to make a difference using those skills through community volunteering opportunities. Have your voice and choice in what happens in your community!  

Photography and Film
Students will explore different areas of technology related to photography and film-making in a modular system. Students will be able to create movie trailers, stop-motion animation videos, visual marketing and advertisements, and photography portfolios.

Programming Technology
Students will learn about computer programming through various online software. Students will then be able to develop their programming skills with Microbits.
