2. Here are some of the things we have focused on in the class. Which ones of these are the most challenging for you? Pick all that apply. *

Pacing: story drags or goes too quickly

Story Logic: the characters' actions don't make sense

Scenes: Do your scenes start and end at the best point of interest? Does each scene have a compelling beginning, rising action and complications, and closing resolution? Do your scenes include all the elements of a scene? Do you have sequel: a resolution with a next desire? Action-Reaction Units are clear?

Readers' expectations: Do you meet reader expectations for your genre? Do you surprise the reader and yet fit the genre?

Theme/Issue: Do you know what these are or have an inkling?

Story Stakes: Are they high enough? Appropriate to the genre?

Goal, Motivation, Conflict (GMC): Do your characters have clear goals? Clear reasons -- motivation -- for their actions and goals? Do they have conflict preventing them from reaching their goals?

Point of View (POV): Do you stay in one character's point of view per scene? Do you understand point of view so you can make an informed choice?

Setting: Is the setting conveyed from the point of view character? Is the information shared relevant to the tone and moment?

Dialogue: Is the dialogue different for each character? Vocabulary? Does the dialogue move the action forward? Or enhance character? Or be appropriate for the pacing of the moment, like to lighten the mood?

Consistency: Does the character stay in character? Doe your characters have depth and three-dimensions and aren't stereotypes?

Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation: Do you know the conventions of your genre?

Word Usage, Metaphors, and Similes: Do you feel comfortable with your word choice options and ability to create unique turns of phrase and avoid cliches?

Sensory Details: Can you enrich you story by using strong and specific verbs, nouns, and adjectives?
