Kitchen and Basement Survey
Dear Westminster Friends,
Over five years ago WPC members began designating funds for future kitchen improvements. Today, there’s over $75,000 in the ‘kitchen fund’, seed money to begin this process. Three months ago, a committee was formed to explore possibilities and has been meeting monthly since. The committee members are Ken Hunting, Mike Underwood, Stephanie Hankey, Don Campbell, Joan Fossum, David Lucas, Jolynn Lucas, Molly McIntosh, and Charlene Stoner.
After assessment, it’s become clear that updating the kitchen is but one of the issues needing to be addressed.
• The existing kitchen does not meet current code for present-day food prep and service, nor future expansion of food ministries.
• The Fellowship Hall restrooms are not ADA compliant.
• Our 100+ year old sanctuary basement presents challenges. Water leakage continues through windows and walls due to weather and rising ground water, and this after numerous and significant remediations.
Options discussed have been two-fold:
1. Remodel and expand the existing kitchen and Fellowship Hall area and replace the current two restrooms with a single ADA compliant version.
2. Develop the Discovery Hall basement to include a new kitchen, Fellowship Hall, and two ADA compliant restrooms. NOTE - possible future expansion into the Discovery House basement was integral to the design and building of the structure over 20 years ago.
This juncture provides WPC an opportunity to explore current and future ministry possibilities as they relate to the basement spaces, and the committee would welcome your input! Please provide feedback by filling in the survey below. Family members are welcome to participate individually, and additional copies of the survey are available at the church office, or again, on the church website.
