Interested in having a book box? We've made lots of great changes in prep for new management in 2024!!

What's different?

*All authors get a sample book box prior to proceeding with their book box to test our quality and services!

*All authors get photo and video verification that all boxes are made/packed and ready to be sent prior to listing online!

*The Bookish Boutique receives written confirmation of book box price/breakdown and put in folder for the author.

*Authors get confirmation of delivery to recipients with customer name/address blocked out.

How does it work?

Physically Signed Book Box Option
Step 1.) Sample Box Deposit invoiced to author-paid by author. This is sent back to author once box is approved and proceeded with on Step 3-4. Items ordered upon deposit paid with proof. Please note just for the box alone-- this Sample Colored Box price is a lot higher for 1; then compared to ordering 25 full color boxes at $9.33 a piece + shipping/taxes. Sample Deposits are between $80-$110 depending on the options the author wants for their box. 
Step 2.) Author sends 1 up front signed copy of their book
Step 2.5) The Bookish Boutique provides all cost and receipts for the sample box/merch ordered with deposit money.
Step 3.) Sample box put together-Pictures taken for social media for Sample Box & for the listing later, and box sent to Author for approval, if approved sample box deposit paid back. If author decides not to proceed with boxes, The Bookish Boutique keeps deposit to cover cost for 1 box.
Step 4.) Once approved- Author sends 25 + 2 copies/sets of their signed books for boxes to be made. (25 minimum for printed full color boxes. +2 for stock as replacement books just in case we need any to be sent to customers for damage claims.) The Bookish Boutique pays shipping up front to a certain dollar amount. Any damaged books sent back to author.
Step 5.) Author is shown book box price breakdown in writing and gives written consent to price and breakdown.
Step 6.) Boxes made. Video and Photo proof sent to author, upon confirmation that boxes are ready to ship; Boxes posted online.
Step 7.) Author receives royalties for every box sold weekly

Digitally Signed Book Box Option

Step 2.) Author Sends Manuscript & The Bookish Boutique orders copies from IngramSpark with authors permission
Step 2.5) The Bookish Boutique provides all cost and receipts for the sample box/merch ordered with deposit money.

Additionally- If authors would like this book box to have a special edition cover for their book/s we will provide cover (just will recover cost from box sales); and also list book only options in our Special Edition Book Shop

Additionally- Authors are welcome to send more or ask us to order more than 25 if they believe they will sell, they will just need to send if increments of 25--25, 50, 75, etc. 

Additionally- We now have an in house stenciler; if you would like your books stenciled or decorated edges we can do that. There is no extra step to this, they can be sent straight to us.

What is the pay?

Author Prints/Physically Signs:
$10.00 per book 299 pages down
$12.50 per paperback book 300 pages up
$15.50 per hardback book 300 pages up
$24.00 per book 550 pages up

Example: Trilogy Book Box sells 25 at $12.50 per book- $37.50 per box = $937.50

We print with digitally signature:
$5.00 per book 299 pages down
$8.00 per book 300 pages up
$12.00 per book 550 pages up

Example: Duet Book Box sells 25 at one book $8 and other book $12 per book- $20.00 per box = $500

Common Questions

Do you accept co-authors? Yes, but we will pay royalties to one author; they split royalties amongst themselves

Do you take international authors? Yes, but we will only do the print/digital signature option-- If you would like the physically signed option and your international; shipping costs will be calculated in box list price. Sample Box shipping over $12.50 we will invoice for.

Does the series have to be completed? Standalones and Completed Series are preferred with the exception if all the books in the series can be read as standalones; then we can do that! If you have a book 1 in a new uncompleted series you'd really like to do, and believe it will sell you are welcome for consideration.

I have a 6 book series, is that too big? Yes, but we can do special omnibus covers-combined books if the author would like to make it less books in the box.

Do we accept trad Authors or Authors with representation? Yes

Are Authors allowed to negotiate royalty pay? Yes, but it will be reflected in cost of book box

Are Authors allowed to ask for royalty advance? Yes, but it doesn't mean it will be honored. We would need to see a guarantee of interest from readers wanting to buy!

Example: I sell $1million in book sales yearly, and I would like to do 100 box run; with a $1,000 up front royalty pay. We would do due diligence and decide if we would like to take this risk- either accept, negotiate, or respectfully turn down.

What if I don't like my sample box and don't want to proceed? That is fine! No hard feelings, and we are happy for you to test our services!

What if I want a merch item changed after seeing my sample box? That is fine! Just let us know what you would like in there instead!

How long will it take for me to get my sample box? Between 2-5 weeks after we receive the sample box book! This may differ depending on how long it takes to get the sample box in  (usually 2 weeks), if there is a merch item ordered custom or china...etc.

What about communication? Authors will get check-in emails along the way!

Are we allowed to pick what's in our Book Box? We will take requests. We usually put 2 merch items per box (tiny extras/paper products don't count), if an author would like more items that is fine, but remember it will add to the cost of the book box.

What happens when my box is discounted? Royalties for both the author and TBB will change to reflect the sale price if the boxes sell at that price. Authors are shown receipt proof.

Example: Box is listed at $60.00 with Author making $12.50 and TBB making $6.50. Discounted to $54.00. Author royalties for those boxes sold at $9.50 and TBB royalties for those boxes sold at $3.50.  

What happens if my book boxes don't sell? After 6 months, unless author asks to extend, we will dismantle boxes and send books back to author. If any merch made specific to the book/author is made, TBB, is given permission from the Author to sell those individually in TBB online store; and/or Authors have the option to purchase the remainder merch at cost + $2 per item to sell on their own + shipping. 

If I use my original cover or a special cover I provide for this box- are they exclusive to The Bookish Boutique? No, you may use them in other boxes, or for whatever you want. The only restriction for covers is if we make a special one for you for the box and store; then that cover edition would be exclusive to The Bookish Boutique.

If The Bookish Boutique provides a special edition cover for the box and their shop; can I order copies for myself to sell at signings? No, as part of our change from 2023, and because of issues that arose. Special Edition Covers exclusive to The Bookish Boutique; can only be sold and found on our website. 

How do I order the Special Edition Covers if I pick the Physically Signed Book Box option? The easiest way to do this is to create an account and order through IngramSpark-Or-Other POD book printers. If you want to order author copies through Amazon as the printer- there is steps pinned to the author group you will see once invited in!!

What happens if we get a chargeback from a customer after sending out the box? We will take the loss of box, and money if we can't fight it. This does not affect author.

What happens if a customer has a damaged book in their box? The 2 additional books are for this reason. Authors will still get royalties and informed in a damaged book stock needs to be used. Any other items damaged will either be replaced or given store credit per our policy and where customer is located and if it's glass or not.

What happens if we sent a box, have proof, but is lost in the mail and customer is requesting a replacement or refund? The Bookish Boutique takes the loss, and refunds fully after tracking is verified lost and mail carrier contacted. 

Why can't you just buy the books up front all at once; or send me/Author, royalties up front all at once? Part of our change coming to 2024, from 2023- is changing this system. Previously we did pre-orders and paid authors first half up front, and remainder once books were in. This caused problems such as- stock won't sell; authors pull and want boxes taken down but won't buy back books/stock; etc, Authors don't promote. This new system encourages authors to promote their box!! The more boxes that sell, the more royalties they make and it's a win/win for everyone!

Final Words

Book Boxes are a fun way to showcase your book/series!! This is a fun process and supposed to be non-stressful. We hope that these new changes help tremendously in improving the fun in doing book boxes again!
