Be a GZL Volunteer!
Glasgow Zine Library is looking for new volunteers to add to our team. If you’re interested in zines, archives, or community arts spaces/events, this is the role for you!

Our volunteers help staff the library by making visitors feel at home, telling them about events, and keeping the zine collection tidy and looking it's best. There will also be the option to get training to catalogue and develop our collection of almost 2000 zines with our heritage project, or be involved in our youth outreach programme!

There's no fixed commitment for how long or how frequently you must commit to volunteering. You will receive a full induction, and reasonable travel expenses within Glasgow will be covered.

We’re looking for volunteers to help out with the main aspects of our work, including:

Day-to-day: Invigilating the library during our opening hours. Tasks will include frontline work such as greeting visitors, assisting them in finding what they are looking for, helping to tidy the space and the collection, and taking items that people donate.

Events: Invigilating at our public, in-person events. Tasks may include assisting a member of staff or a facilitator to greet attendees, helping to provide materials that may be needed for the event, helping to clean up after the event, helping to set out chairs and/or tables.

Cataloguing: Help develop the collection and catalogue zines. We have hundreds of zines donated throughout the year that need to be entered into our online catalogue. This includes basic data entry skills. This work can be done remotely or in the library on one of our designated devices.

Throughout the year, there will also be a chance to be involved in work with our external partners (eg at markets, fairs, in educational settings, or festivals)

The volunteer programme will be ongoing, with rolling inductions throughout 2024.

Please fill out this form to register your interest and we'll get back to you about joining in!
