AWARD PURPOSEThe Power of One Dedicated Woman honors deserving women who inspire others to be part of community work and build stronger neighborhoods. The annual opportunity recognizes women who set an example of what one woman can do to make a difference in the lives of others.
DESCRIPTIONDo you know a woman who is changing Detroit neighborhoods? A woman who has stepped up to care for needs of the community? A woman helping the neighborhood meet basic needs? A woman who gives of herself for the greater good? A woman whose love and support has helped her community? A friend, neighbor or family member who stands out from others while never seeking attention for herself?
These women deserve recognition precisely because they did not ask for it. Though not often in the limelight, they are the ones who inspire. It’s time to honor the women who have created a stir, inspired change, and given us a reason to hope for a better future.
AWARD CRITERIA This award is for all women: cisgender (women who were assigned female at birth), transgender (women who were assigned male at birth), and nonbinary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women.
Recipients will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Identifies with above statement
- Over age 18
- Resident of the city of Detroit
- Shares her time, talent, and treasure to improve her Detroit community
- Her efforts have gone unsung (largely unrecognized by mainstream media, the public, and through traditional awards)
- Open to receiving no cost support services and resources from MCR and our partners to support her work in the community, along with other honoree benefits
- Able to attend in-person awards event on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
NOMINATIONS- Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of Detroit community leaders and past Power of One winners.
- Nominators may nominate more than one woman; however, a separate form must be submitted for each nominee. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- Seven women will be chosen by the panel to be honored.
- Although all submissions must include the name of the individual submitting the nomination, we will keep the name anonymous if an individual chooses.
- All nomination contents will be kept confidential.
DEADLINECompleted nomination forms must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, for consideration.
